Help Make Student Press Freedom Happen

If you are interested in the mission of New Voices, there is a lot you can do to take action. Whether you're a student, school staff member, journalist, or other ally, your support is critical for the success of this movement.

1. CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATOR

Write to your senator and representative to encourage them to support — and even cosponsor — New Voices legislation in Michigan. This is one of the most valuable ways you can help.

There's 3 steps:

1. Find your representatives! Use this link to find out who your state/local senators are.

2. Use this template to write a letter asking them to support New Voices legislation.

3. Send it off! For most representatives and staff members, the email address will be firstname.lastname@house/senate.michigan.gov.

2. JOIN OUR TEAM

Anyone passionate about student journalism is welcome to step up to help lead New Voices of Michigan. We do a wide range of work, from outreach to strategizing. Our leadership team follows a roadmap specialized for Michigan and backed by extensive research as well as input from Student Press Law Center staff. To introduce and pass New Voices legislation, the focus of our efforts is partnering with legislators in the state. If you are interested in learning more, please take a moment to fill out this google form, and we will get back to you within 7 business days to schedule an introductory call.
